The so-called “Via Lattea” is an Italian-French ski resort composed of seven Piedmontese towns, belonging to the Alta Val Susa (Oulx, Cesana, Claviere, San Sicario, Sauze d’Oulx and Sestriere), Val Chisone (Pragelato), and the French village of Montgenèvre.
The area, the largest in north-west Italy, extends from a height of 1,350 m of Cesana to the 2,823 m of Monte Motta and has 72 ski lifts and 211 slopes (with a total length of 400 km), some of which hosted the skiing competitions of the XX Olympic Winter Games in Turin 2006.
The district is accessible by train from the train station of Oulx-Cesana-Claviere-Sestriere, located on the international Rome-Paris line or by car via the A32 highway, taking the Circonvallazione di Oulx exit.
It is the second largest ski resort in Europe.
